The Detroit Lions made a minor change to their roster on Monday by claiming wide receiver Conner Vernon off waivers. To make room for him, they waived wide receiver Quintin Payton.
Vernon joins the Lions after spending some time with the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals this year. He entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Duke, and he was with the Oakland Raiders last summer. This year, he was most recently with the Bengals, and he actually had a touchdown catch in their preseason opener. They let him go after the game, though, and the Lions were awarded him off waivers.
Payton departs the Lions after spending a couple weeks with the team. He was claimed off waivers at the end of July, and he was on the field for 19 offensive snaps and two special teams snaps during the Lions' preseason opener this past Saturday.
With the Lions making an even swap at wide receiver, their roster remains at 90 players.
