The Detroit Lions may have activated defensive end Ziggy Ansah from the PUP list on Tuesday, but he's not going to be returning to game action this week. The Lions' game against the Oakland Raiders isn't until Friday night, but with only two chances to practice before then, the team decided to just go ahead and rule him out right now.
Lions coach Jim Caldwell said he'll take his time with Ziggy Ansah and that Ansah won't play vs the Raiders

I really can't argue with this approach. Ansah does need to get reps in the Lions' new defensive scheme, but he's basically been out since he had shoulder surgery in February. The Lions have been very patient with him up to this point, and there's no sense in rushing him back in only the second week of the preseason.
At this point, I guess the hope is that Ansah will be back for the Lions' game at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 22. That game will serve as the dress rehearsal for the regular season, and hopefully by then he will be back up to full speed.
