Lions training camp: Notes from Wednesday

News and notes from Wednesday's Detroit Lions training camp practice.

Leon Halip
  • The Detroit Lions put together a pretty wild field goal drill on Wednesday. According to Tim Twentyman, Nate Freese and Giorgio Tavecchio each attempted kicks from 36, 45, 54, 62 and 67 yards. Freese made two of his attempts (45 and 54), while Tavecchio made three (36, 45 and 54). Amazingly, Tavecchio apparently almost connected from 67 yards out as well.
  • You get a drop, and you get a drop, and you get a drop...
  • Might this be an indication that George Winn's chances of making the 53-man roster are improving? Special teams will be key for backups like Winn as they try to make the team, and the fact that he got some first-team reps is definitely a positive sign for him.

  • Jason Hanson was at practice on Wednesday, as was Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr.

  • The Lions also got a visit from Rick Forzano, who served as their head coach from 1974-76.
