Lions release CB Drayton Florence

Less than two weeks after signing him, the Detroit Lions have released cornerback Drayton Florence.

USA TODAY Sports

Cornerback Drayton Florence's second stint with the Detroit Lions was a short one. After returning to the team just 12 days ago, the Lions released him on Tuesday.

When Florence signed with the Lions earlier this month, he was viewed as some much-needed veteran depth at cornerback. He didn't exactly have a great 2012 season with the Lions, but he was quite good a year ago with the Carolina Panthers. Although he was getting a late start on joining the Lions' new defensive scheme, his signing seemed to put Jonte Green and Chris Greenwood on notice.

Now, Florence is already off the team after only one game with the Lions. He didn't play against the Cleveland Browns, and Florence was only on the field for 14 defensive snaps and two special teams snaps against the Oakland Raiders. His most notable play in the Oakland game was getting beat for a long pass, and now he's once again a free agent.

At this time, it's unclear what the corresponding move is for the Lions. We only know that they released Florence, so they're at 89 players for the time being.
