The Detroit Lions have made a somewhat surprising move and have released Darryl Tapp, according to Josh Katzenstein.
When Tapp signed with the Lions this past offseason as a free agent, he seemed like a lock for the 53-man roster. Actually, he seemed like a lock for the 53-man roster when training camp started. Then George Johnson emerged as one of the Lions' top defensive ends, pushing Tapp off the roster in the process.
Tapp could possibly come back in a few days if the Lions place Kyle Van Noy on short-term IR next week.
