The Detroit Lions have waived running back George Winn, according to Dave Birkett.

Winn really came out of nowhere in the preseason. He only joined the Lions a couple weeks before training camp, but he quickly made his presence felt with some big hits on the practice field. Then, in the preseason, he ran the ball pretty well and showed promise on special teams. In the end, it wasn't enough for him to make the team, but he should be a strong candidate for the practice squad.

It appears the Lions have decided to roll with three running backs, which may mean they are looking to carry both Jed Collins and Montell Owens as their fullbacks.
