The Detroit Lions haven't announced their 2014 practice squad just yet, but we already know that four players have been added to it. According to Dave Birkett, the Lions have signed running back George Winn, wide receiver Andrew Peacock, offensive tackle Michael Williams and offensive guard Rodney Austin to their practice squad so far.
Winn, Williams and Austin were all in the mix for roster spots going into Saturday. In Winn and Austin's case, they didn't make the team because the Lions kept a limited number of players at their respective positions. Winn was left out with only three running backs making the team, and there wasn't room for Austin with only one backup interior lineman on the roster. Both are sticking around on the practice squad, though, adding some depth at running back and offensive guard.
In Williams' case, he didn't make the team because the Lions opted to keep undrafted free agent Cornelius Lucas as their fourth offensive tackle instead of him. Even so, Williams showed a lot of potential at offensive tackle despite being a tight end just a few months ago, so it's good that he cleared waivers and is now on the practice squad.
As for Peacock, he was never in the mix for a roster spot, but he showed enough after signing as an undrafted free agent to stick around on the practice squad, at least for now.
