Lions-Packers injury report: Cassius Vaughn, others ruled out for Sunday

Detroit Lions cornerback Cassius Vaughn is just one of the players who has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

Leon Halip

The Detroit Lions are dealing with a lot of injuries going into Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers, as evidenced by their final injury report for Week 3:

RB Joique Bell (knee) - Probable
FB Montell Owens (hamstring) - Doubtful
OT LaAdrian Waddle (calf) - Out
DE Ziggy Ansah (knee) - Questionable
DE George Johnson (groin) - Questionable
DT Nick Fairley (biceps) - Questionable
LB Travis Lewis (quad) - Out
CB Cassius Vaughn (ankle) - Out
S James Ihedigbo (neck) - Doubtful
S Don Carey (hamstring) - Probable

The defense in particular is extremely banged up for the Lions. Defensive linemen Ziggy Ansah, George Johnson and Nick Fairley are all listed as questionable, and safety James Ihedigbo is likely out again after being declared doubtful. And we already know that cornerback Cassius Vaughn and linebacker Travis Lewis are out for Sunday.

Vaughn's injury in particular is a tough one to swallow for the Lions. He was set to replace Bill Bentley and Nevin Lawson, who are both out for the season with injuries, as the Lions' nickelback. Now, it appears that the recently signed Danny Gorrer may have to step in as the nickelback. The Lions could also go with Don Carey, who is finally ready to play after missing several weeks with a hamstring injury, and another option is to move Rashean Mathis inside in nickel situations.

In any case, I would expect the Lions to promote Mohammed Seisay from the practice squad prior to Sunday's game. They can't go into a game against the Packers with only three healthy cornerbacks (Mathis, Gorrer and Darius Slay), so Seisay is probably going to get a promotion just so the Lions have some depth at cornerback.

Here's the Packers' final injury report for Week 3:

OT Bryan Bulaga (knee) - Questionable
LB Brad Jones (quadricep) - Out
LB Andy Mulumba (knee) - Out
CB Casey Hayward (glute) - Questionable
S Micah Hyde (knee) - Probable
