The Detroit Lions returned to the practice field on Wednesday, and they were without wide receiver Calvin Johnson, who suffered an ankle injury against the Green Bay Packers. Johnson's injury wasn't believed to be serious, but he was held out of practice on Wednesday. Hopefully this was precautionary more than anything, but this will be something to keep an eye on as the week progresses.
Here's the Lions' full injury report from Wednesday:
RB Joique Bell (knee) - Limited in practice
FB Montell Owens (hamstring) - Limited in practice
WR Calvin Johnson (ankle) - Did not practice
OT LaAdrian Waddle (calf) - Limited in practice
DE Ziggy Ansah (knee) - Limited in practice
DE George Johnson (groin) - Fully practiced
DT Nick Fairley (biceps) - Limited in practice
LB Travis Lewis (quadricep) - Did not practice
CB Cassius Vaughn (ankle) - Did not practice
S James Ihedigbo (neck) - Fully practiced
S Don Carey (hamstring) - Did not practice
As you can see, the Lions were also without linebacker Travis Lewis, cornerback Cassius Vaughn and safety Don Carey. The good news is that right tackle LaAdrian Waddle returned to practice for the first time since he got hurt in Week 1. He was limited, but this is a step in the right direction for Waddle, and hopefully it's a sign that he will be able to return to action this week against the New York Jets.
