Lions injury report: James Ihedigbo returns to practice

Safety James Ihedigbo returned to practice for the Detroit Lions on Friday.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions got good news on Friday, as safety James Ihedigbo returned to practice on a limited basis. We just found out on Thursday that he is dealing with knee and neck injuries, but the fact that he got back on the field on Friday is a sign that he's on track to play on Monday night against the New York Giants.

Here's the Lions' full injury report for Friday:

DT Caraun Reid (shoulder) - Limited in practice
S James Ihedigbo (knee/neck) - Limited in practice
S Don Carey (hamstring) - Did not practice

Ihedigbo may have returned, but Don Carey was once again out. He looks unlikely to play for the season opener, meaning that even if Ihedigbo is active, chances are the Lions will need both Isa Abdul-Quddus and Jerome Couplin to be ready to get on the field. Being ready to get on the field may simply mean contributing on special teams if Ihedigbo is good to go, but you never know.

The Lions' final injury report of the week -- with designations for Monday included -- will be released on Saturday.
