Injury report: Rashean Mathis comes down with illness

The Lions might well be on their way back to full strength at tight end while a veteran cornerback has potentially caught a bug overseas.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Lions tight end situation has been dicey in the past few weeks, but signs point to optimism as Brandon Pettigrew returned to full practice on Thursday. His presence in blocking schemes would prove valuable for the Detroit Lions in their Sunday match with the Kansas City Chiefs. While other Lions were moved to full practice, Rashean Mathis was a limited participant in practice, listed with an illness that could perhaps be the same strain that limited Stephen Tulloch on Wednesday, when he was not available for open practice.

Mathis, alongside with Joique Bell and LaAdrian Waddle, constituted the only Lions limited in practice Thursday. DeAndre Levy remains the only Lions' player out from practice altogether. Calvin Johnson returned to practice after a day off on Wednesday, while everyone else listed with lingering injury issues were full participants at practice on Thursday. The full injury report follows.
