Monday night featured a cavalcade of Lions limping off for the sidelines and Tuesday was filled with examinations and early diagnoses. Wednesday, the Detroit Lions took stock as they released the first official practice injury report of the week. Big news came early Tuesday that tight end Eric Ebron is likely to miss three weeks of football for recovery in spite of no structural damage to his knee.
At Wednesday's practice, three other Lions were absent nursing injuries. Haloti Ngata was the big name missing, having sustained a calf injury on Monday night. Joique Bell was out against the Seattle Seahawks with an ankle injury and also missed practice on Wednesday; the other Lion was Travis Lewis, who also suffered an ankle injury.
Numerous Lions were limited in Wednesday's practice. Rashean Mathis is nursing a calf injury, while James Ihedigbo deals with a quad strain. Ziggy Ansah now suffers a third different injury for the third week in a row, moving on from pain in his groin to pain in his shoulder. Larry Warford and Sam Martin were also limited.
The good news is that Brandon Pettigrew saw limited time in practice, finally returning after some time away with a hamstring injury. The Lions have missed his presence in blocking at tight end; with the Ebron injury, his return is even more crucial for the team moving forward. In addition, DeAndre Levy, who saw limited practice the prior week, was in full practice on Wednesday.
