Detroit Lions vs. Green Bay Packers snap count: Lions shake up secondary

Because of injuries, the Detroit Lions had to shake up their secondary personnel against the Green Bay Packers.

Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions made a few minor transactions this week, leading up to Sunday's Packers game. The moves seemed inconsequential, but when the injury bug hit in Lambeau, a few of these players stepped up huge and made game-changing plays. Here's the snap distribution for the game:

Offense:

QUARTERBACK OFFENSIVE SNAPS PERCENTAGE SPECIAL TEAMS SNAPS PERCENTAGE
Matthew Stafford 65 100%

RUNNING BACK OFFENSIVE SNAPS PERCENTAGE SPECIAL TEAMS SNAPS PERCENTAGE
Joique Bell 39 60%

Theo Riddick 17 26% 7 22%
Ameer Abdullah 12 18% 3 9%
George Winn

Lance Moore 39 60% 2 6%
Corey Fuller 8 12% 21 66%

TIGHT END OFFENSIVE SNAPS PERCENTAGE SPECIAL TEAMS SNAPS PERCENTAGE
Brandon Pettigrew 46 71%

Eric Ebron 32 49%

LaAdrian Waddle 8 12% 4 12%

OFFENSIVE GUARD/CENTER OFFENSIVE SNAPS PERCENTAGE SPECIAL TEAMS SNAPS PERCENTAGE
Laken Tomlinson 65 100% 4 12%
Travis Swanson 65 100% 4 12%
Larry Warford 65 100%

Manny Ramirez

Analysis:

  • Once again, Ameer Abdullah didn't figure much into the Lions' offensive plans. He had fewer snaps than both Joique Bell and Theo Riddick.
  • The Lions had LaAdrian Waddle on an extremely short leash. With Cornelius Lucas a healthy scratch, it was Michael Ola who played right tackle for most of the game, after Waddle was pulled early on.
  • Also, it is interesting to see that Brandon Pettigrew saw the field more than Eric Ebron. Given the Lions' protection issues, this isn't completely shocking, but still it feels like Ebron should be given more playing time.

Analysis:

  • The first thing that sticks out to me is the fact that James Ihedigbo got straight-up benched in favor of Isa Abdul-Quddus. Ihedigbo was benched toward the end of last year, too. It's hard to see him around the team much longer, especially since he is an unrestricted free agent in 2016.
  • With Rashean Mathis on IR and a whole bunch of in-game injuries, the Lions shared the field at the cornerback position. Nevin Lawson saw the biggest bump in snaps, but when he went down late, it was Crezdon Butler who stepped in. Butler was acquired earlier in the week and ended up making the game's biggest play on the two-point conversion.
  • Travis Lewis was a surprising scratch for the game, so Tahir Whitehead jumped into the starting role and was almost on the field the entire game. This was a move that was expected weeks ago, but we will see if it sticks through next week.
