NFL Draft 2016: Lions in line for first overall pick

After their seventh loss of the season, the Detroit Lions are slated to be the first team on the clock.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Halfway through their season, the Detroit Lions are in a familiar place: at the bottom of the league. As the league currently stands, the Lions are the only seven-loss team, and therefore lined up for the first overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Since 2002, the Lions have had a top five pick six times and a top ten pick ten times. They haven't had the first overall pick since 2009, when they selected Matthew Stafford.

At this point, the Lions could go in a lot of directions with their early pick. The Lions offense and defense both rank at the bottom of the league, and there is no shortage of holes on their roster. Both the offensive and defensive line could use some reinforcements, but it would be hard to pass on a playmaking defender in the secondary, too.

What position would you like the Lions to target in the 2016 draft?
