Lions vs. Eagles snap counts: Blowout gives backups playing time

Nearly everyone got a chance to play against the Eagles.

Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

When a football team is dominating like the Detroit Lions were on Sunday, everyone wants to get in on the fun. Because the game was decided early in the third quarter, the Lions deployed a variety of lineups and many players got a chance in the game. Here's the overall snap count for the Lions' game against the Philadelphia Eagles:

Offense:

QUARTERBACK OFFENSIVE SNAPS PERCENTAGE SPECIAL TEAMS SNAPS PERCENTAGE
Matthew Stafford 72 100%

RUNNING BACK OFFENSIVE SNAPS PERCENTAGE SPECIAL TEAMS SNAPS PERCENTAGE
Ameer Abdullah 28 39% 3 10%

Joique Bell 17 24% 2 6%

Laken Tomlinson 72 100% 7 23%
Travis Swanson 72 100% 7 23%
Larry Warford 69 96%

Manny Ramirez 3 4% 7 23%

Analysis:

  • Ameer Abdullah continues to see his snaps grow. He actually led the running back crew in snaps this week, as Joique Bell continues to be sidelined more often.
  • If it weren't for the possible concussion suffered by Larry Warford late in the game, the offensive line would have remained intact for the second straight game. If everyone remains healthy, it looks like this is your starting five offensive linemen for the rest of the year.
  • The Detroit Lions spread out their personnel this week. Both Lance Moore and Corey Fuller saw a pretty high percentage of snaps this week. Granted, Fuller's contributions mostly came after Moore went down with an injury.

Analysis:

  • Odd distribution among defensive ends this week, as Devin Taylor led the squad in snaps. Jason Jones may have slipped in the depth chart, although it's dangerous to read too much into snap counts of a blowout. What is clear is Ziggy Ansah's production in just 30 snaps is wildly impressive.
  • Because of the blowout, we got to see what some fringe players had in the tank. Kyle Van Noy, Khyri Thornton, Bill Bentley and even Don Carey saw some defensive playing time.
  • If there's one thing the Lions have missed with Ndamukong Suh gone, it's his distribution of snaps. Suh consistently averaged between 70 and 80 percent of snaps. His perceived replacement, Haloti Ngata, didn't even play in half of the snaps on Sunday.
