2016 Pro Bowl Roster: Ezekiel Ansah, Calvin Johnson are the two Lions going to Pro Bowl

Two Lions were selected in the 2016 Pro Bowl, but shutdown corner Darius Slay did not make the cut.

The roster for the 2016 NFL Pro Bowl was announced Tuesday night and the Detroit Lions had 2 players listed: Ezekiel Ansah and Calvin Johnson.

Ansah's inclusion comes as no surprise. Ziggy finished third in fan voting among defensive ends. The third year player is well deserving of the honor, sacking the quarterback 13.5 times this season, the second-most among all NFL players. This is the first time a Lions defensive end has made the Pro Bowl since Robert Porcher in 2001.

Although he didn't appear on the fan vote, Calvin Johnson is also a decent selection for the Pro Bowl, if a little surprising. Despite his age and a few quiet games (including only one reception in the Monday night game against New Orleans) the superstar wide receiver continues to dazzle and has put up another 1000 yard receiving season, his sixth consecutive.

Darius Slay was not elected to the Pro Bowl despite his amazing 2015 season. Slay has been a shutdown cornerback ever since a slow start this season, and Pro Football Focus even ranks him as the second-best corner in the league right now. However, Slay only has two interceptions on the year, and the lack of easily viewable statistics is likely the reason why Slay didn't finish among the top-ten in fan voting this year.

Also excluded from the Pro Bowl was kicker Matt Prater, who hadn't missed a field goal all season until Monday night. Prater was also not in the top-ten in fan voting, and his three missed extra points were likely his downfall.

The Pro Bowl fantasy draft will take place on Jan. 27 and will air on ESPN. The actual Pro Bowl game will be played on Sunday Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. ET.
