Report: Lions are the favorites to sign Ndamukong Suh

According to a report from ESPN, the Detroit Lions are the favorites to sign defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

With defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh set to hit free agency in March, a lot of people have predicted that he will leave Detroit and sign with a new team. There's been a perception that he may want to play in a bigger market, and just generally speaking, it seems like most people around the NFL don't expect him to re-sign with the Detroit Lions.

On Sunday, however, ESPN's Chris Mortensen delivered a report that is the exact opposite of that perception. According to his report, the Lions not only have a shot at re-signing Suh, but they are apparently viewed as the current favorites in the Suh sweepstakes. Specifically, Mortensen wrote that the Lions "have gotten positive vibes from Suh about wanting to continue his career where it started."

On top of this news, Lions president Tom Lewand recently made some extremely encouraging comments about the team's chances of re-signing Suh. Via the Free Press, here's what Lewand told WDIV Flashpoint about Suh:

"He wants to have success in the NFL, obviously, but he wants to do that with us," Lewand said. "And I think that -- I think there's a very, very good chance that we can get something done with him in the next few weeks."

Even if Suh ultimately stays in Detroit, the expectation has been that he will still test free agency first. However, if the Lions can get something done before Suh even has a chance to hit the open market, that would obviously be great news.
