On Friday, the final year of Ndamukong Suh's contract with the Detroit Lions will officially void. This will put Suh on the path to becoming an unrestricted free agent when the new league year begins on March 10. It's rare for a player of Suh's caliber to have an opportunity to hit the open market like this, but unless the Lions franchise him or work out a long-term deal, that's what's going to happen.

If Suh does indeed hit the open market, he will be one of the most sought after free agents. Actually, NFL.com views him as the top overall free agent for 2015, and that's saying a lot considering who some of the other free agents are this year. Just take a look at the top five from NFL.com's free-agent rankings:

1. Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions defensive tackle
2. Justin Houston, Kansas City Chiefs pass rusher
3. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver
4. Demaryius Thomas, Denver Broncos wide receiver
5. Jason Pierre-Paul, New York Giants defensive end

Another Lions defensive tackle, Nick Fairley, came in at No. 22 on NFL.com's free-agent rankings. For context, that's one spot behind Buffalo Bills running back C.J. Spiller and one spot ahead of San Diego Chargers cornerback Brandon Flowers.
