Detroit Lions special teams coordinator John Bonamego was officially named Central Michigan's new head football coach on Sunday. Word first leaked out on Friday that a deal was close between Bonamego and CMU, and the official announcement was made on Sunday:

Bonamego played football at CMU, and he first emerged as a candidate for their head coaching job at the end of January. Things were quiet on that front for about a week, but CMU zeroed in on Bonamego last Friday and made things official just two days later.
The Lions were clearly prepared for Bonamego's departure, as they reportedly hired Joe Marciano as their new special teams coordinator on Friday night. That move has not been officially announced by the Lions just yet, but all signs point to Marciano taking over for Bonamego as the special teams coordinator.
