Compared to losing Ndamukong Suh, this news is barely even a blip on the radar, but another Detroit Lions free agent has signed with a new team. Specifically, fullback Jed Collins has joined the Dallas Cowboys after heading to Texas on Wednesday for a visit.
Unlike with Suh, this wasn't a situation where the Lions were actually trying to re-sign Collins. Before free agency began, the Free Press' Dave Birkett reported this about Collins and the Lions' fullback situation:
But the Lions have made it clear they're planning to go young at the position. Emil Igwenagu, who spent last year on the practice squad, is the favorite to win the job, though the Lions could add a rookie through the draft or as a free agent.
The Lions targeted Collins last year in part because he was so familiar with Joe Lombardi's system from their time together in New Orleans. This year, however, the Lions apparently feel pretty good about Emil Igwenagu, and Collins wasn't in their future plans as a result.
