Lions notes: Rashean Mathis, 2009 redraft, more

Lions notes looks at Rashean Mathis, a redo of the 2009 draft and more.

  • As mentioned earlier in the week, Rashean Mathis only had interest in signing with the Detroit Lions.
  • Mathis has no problem serving in a mentor role for his younger teammates, and his coaches certainly appreciate that mentality.
  • ESPN's Mel Kiper recently redrafted the 2009 class of rookies. Matthew Stafford remained the No. 1 overall pick, and DeAndre Levy actually jumped all the way up to the 14th overall pick after originally being taken in the third round. Brandon Pettigrew, meanwhile, still somehow landed in the first round -- 26th overall, to be exact -- but the Lions ended up with linebacker James Laurinaitis with their second first-round pick. It's also worth noting that Glover Quin, who was originally a fourth-round pick, went 22nd overall in this redraft.

  • Utah defensive back Eric Rowe is reportedly scheduled to visit the Lions at some point before the 2015 NFL Draft.

  • MLive has a recap of what moves have been made in the NFC North so far this offseason.
