2015 NFL mock draft: Saints select Shane Ray

The New Orleans Saints take Shane Ray with the 13th pick of the 2015 POD Community Mock Draft.

Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports

With the 13th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2015 NFL mock draft, the New Orleans Saints select Missouri outside linebacker Shane Ray. ALatx is serving as the Saints' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.

New Orleans finished 25th in the NFL last year in sacks and will surely be looking to add another pass-rushing threat, as their only current weapon at DE/OLB is Junior Galette. Parys Haralson is (unbelievably) slated to start at OLB for this team, so Shane Ray will provide an immediate and immense upgrade. At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, Ray presents good value here and was a force at Mizzou with 14.5 sacks this past season. Bud Dupree did not show the same level of production in college, and Randy Gregory has separate issues of his own, making Ray the clear-cut best option as a 3-4 OLB.

I think the Saints look to add help on the offensive side of the ball a little later in the draft, and they will not address their need at DT here, as the talent left does not warrant this high of a selection. Brandon Browner lessens the Saints' need at CB, so Trae Waynes would be more of a luxury pick at this juncture.
