With the 25th pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2015 NFL mock draft, the Carolina Panthers select Oklahoma wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham. Go_beluga_whales is serving as the Panthers' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
I wanted to go LT or CB here, but there were no viable options on Day 1. The Panthers also signed Michael Oher and Jonathan Martin recently, so O-line can wait a round. With that, I took the BPA in 6-foot-5 WR Dorial Green-Beckham. DGB is a top-10 talent by many scouts, but his off-the-field character concerns have hurt his stock mightily.
Can you picture DGB and Kelvin Benjamin (both are 6-foot-5) lining up on opposite sides of the field? That's an absolute nightmare. With Greg Olsen over the middle and Cam Newton's play-making ability, it could help turn this offense into something really special.
Here is what Green-Beckham's NFL Draft profile has to say about him: "Rare catch radius with ability to pluck would-be interceptions and turn them into catches. Has soft, sure hands. Can see a throw late and still haul it in. Able to drive cornerbacks down the field and then break route off for wide-open look underneath. Shows flashes of special ability when ball is in the air. Plus body control. Can twist and contort in any direction in order to get his hands on a throw."
Is he worth the risk at No. 25 for the Panthers? Absolutely.
