With the first pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2015 NFL mock draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston. Twon82 is serving as the Buccaneers' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
No surprises here really. In the research I have conducted on the Bucs and the first pick in the draft, I have seen very little that suggests they won't use it on a QB. From there, most experts expect them to take Winston, and barring anything odd happening in the coming days, that will likely be the case. I have also seen reports that the Buccaneers like Jameis more than the Lions liked Matthew Stafford coming out of college, which is saying a lot. He has certainly looked incredible in the offseason, and pre-draft workouts have solidified his once somewhat questionable draft stock.
Winston certainly has some character red flags that could end up causing headaches for Lovie Smith and the Bucs. However, I'm not convinced Marcus Mariota has done anything to stand out much to them, and the Buccaneers need to get their signal caller immediately. There isn't much in the free-agent market, and they need to find a long-term fix quickly. If Winston can mature and stay out of trouble, he certainly has the skills to be that franchise QB they've been needing so desperately.
