With the third pick in Pride Of Detroit's 2015 NFL mock draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select USC defensive tackle Leonard Williams. Big.AL is serving as the Jaguars' general manager, and his reasoning for the pick is below.
There's been a ton of talk the last month or so about the Jaguars addressing the Leo position with Randy Gregory or Dante Fowler Jr. Even Vic Beasley has been mentioned in this spot. If it's up to me, though, I'd rather have a dominant interior, pairing Williams with FA signee Jared Odrick. That's a lot of havoc up the middle, which would free up the DEs on their roster (Andre Branch and Chris Clemons) to make more of an impact. DE can also be addressed in the second round with players like Owamagbe Odighizuwa or Nate Orchard.
Williams is the best DT in this draft by a long shot, and disrupting passing lanes and pressuring the QB goes a long way toward helping the back end of the defense. If Williams can consistently beat single-blocks, which should be a given with his strength, that causes serious problems to opposing offensive lines. Do you double him, or do you double Odrick? It's much easier to game plan around a DE than two dominant DTs, and that's why the Jaguars select Leonard Williams, DT out of USC, with the No. 3 pick.
