Lions notes: Bill Bentley, Nevin Lawson, more

Lions notes looks at Bill Bentley, Nevin Lawson and much more.

  • We probably won't get a real solid idea of where Bill Bentley and Nevin Lawson are at in their recovery from season-ending injuries until the Detroit Lions hit the field for OTAs later this month. However, Jim Caldwell provided a brief update on both players last week: With a logjam forming at the nickelback spot on defense, it'll be important for Bentley and Lawson to get back to action sooner rather than later. Of course, simply getting healthy is the top priority, but Bentley in particular could be in danger of losing his spot this offseason with Josh Wilson, Chris Owens and Quandre Diggs joining the team.

  • Caldwell has recently been in contact with James Ihedigbo, who is sitting out the Lions' voluntary workouts in hopes of getting a new contract.
  • Caldwell was in mid-season form at the Lions' rookie minicamp last week.
  • Todd McShay's way-too-early 2016 NFL mock draft has the Lions taking Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin.
