The Detroit Lions hit the practice field on Wednesday for their second OTA of the year, and they were down two draft picks. Specifically, running back Ameer Abdullah and cornerback Alex Carter -- the Lions' two picks from the second day of the draft -- were absent from practice. They're not injured, though. Rather, they were absent because of scheduling conflicts:
#Lions RB Ameer Abdullah cannot take part in OTAs today or tomorrow because he's attending the rookie premier in LA

Alex Carter is not at OTAs because Stanford is still in school. Caldwell said he expects Carter back in the next week or so

On the injury front, running back Joique Bell and offensive tackle LaAdrian Waddle were sidelined from practice because they are still recovering from offseason surgery. In addition, Josh Katzenstein reports that tight end Joseph Fauria and offensive guard Larry Warford didn't take part in the Lions' team drills, and Dave Birkett reports that linebackers Stephen Tulloch and DeAndre Levy were also out during the team drills.
Chances are the Lions are just taking extra precautions with all of these players considering it's only May and there's no need to rush anyone back at this point in time.
