The Detroit Lions' top four defensive tackles from last season are now all officially with other teams. Ndamukong Suh joined the Miami Dolphins at the beginning of free agency back in March, and Nick Fairley signed with the St. Louis Rams shortly after. More recently, C.J. Mosley also signed with the Dolphins, and now Andre Fluellen is headed to the Buffalo Bills.
With Fluellen joining the Bills, his most recent stint with the Lions has officially come to an end. I've honestly lost track of how many times he's re-signed with the Lions over the years, but he spent time with them during each of the last seven seasons.
Fluellen has also had stints with the Dolphins and Chicago Bears over the years, so I suppose joining the Bills doesn't necessarily mean his time in Detroit is done for good. It's entirely possible that he will once again become a free agent at some point this year, and he could very well once again join the Lions. Any time there is an injury or a need for added depth on the defensive line, Fluellen is seemingly the first person the Lions call, so if he doesn't stick in Buffalo, I wouldn't rule him out as a potential addition down the road.
For now, Fluellen is off the market, as are Suh, Fairley and Mosley. Of that group, it feels like the Lions only seriously pursued Suh as they rebuilt the defensive tackle position this offseason, but whether that's truly the case or not, there is a new top four in place at DT this year: Haloti Ngata, Tyrunn Walker, Gabe Wright and Caraun Reid.
