Want to join Pride Of Detroit's editorial team? Now's your chance!

Do you want to become a front-page writer, editor or moderator for Pride Of Detroit? Now's your chance!

It's hard to believe it's been this long, but Pride Of Detroit is getting ready to cover its 10th season of Detroit Lions football. The site first launched back in April 2006, and nine seasons and nearly 53 million pageviews later, here we are. Training camp is almost here, as is the 2015 season.

Before we fully switch into season mode, it's time for our annual search for new writers. There's a bit of a twist this year, though, as I'm also looking to add editors and moderators. I'm looking to bring on at least 2-3 people for each position, and you're more than welcome to apply for more than one role. Here are the details:

Editor

Basic responsibilities:

  • Edit front-page posts, checking for potential spelling, grammatical and factual errors
  • Optimize headlines, URLs and social media copy
  • Occasionally produce front-page posts
  • Utilize Pride Of Detroit's style guide during the editing process
  • Work in specific shifts (morning, afternoon, games/practices, etc.)

Skills required:

  • Impeccable writing skills and an ability to spot and correct spelling, grammatical and factual errors
  • Knowledge of the Lions, the NFL and football in general

How to apply:

Send an email to writeforpod@gmail.com, list what job(s) you're applying for and respond to the following questions:

1. How much writing and editing experience do you have? Please provide examples of your work. (If you don't have any past examples, create something new to showcase your writing and editing skills.)

2. How extensive is your knowledge of the Lions, the NFL and football in general?

3. What is your availability from the standpoint of being able to work specific shifts? (For example, are mornings better for you on Mondays, but you can only work afternoons on Tuesdays? Are you not available at all on certain days? What about during games -- are you available then? You can be as specific or general as you want; I just want to get a feel for your availability.)

4. Why do you want to join Pride Of Detroit as an editor?

Writer (news)

Basic responsibilities:

  • Occasionally post to Pride Of Detroit's social media channels (Twitter and Facebook)

Other information

As of right now, these are unpaid positions. That could always change down the road, though, and if you're looking for experience and exposure, we can provide both of those things. Pride Of Detroit has drawn nearly 53 million pageviews since launching in 2006, including more than 12.5 million last year alone, and contributing to the site could serve as an excellent starting point if you're looking to further your editing/writing career.

The deadline to apply is Friday, July 31. I will likely wait until then to go through the applications, so don't fret if you don't hear back from me immediately.

If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email or leave a comment on this post.
