The Detroit Lions officially made four roster moves today according to the league transaction wire. In addition to the signing of Deon Butler reported earlier in the day, the Lions also reportedly placed Jordan Thompson on the waived/injured list, officially cut Taylor Mays and waived Jarred Haggins.
Thompson suffered what Jim Caldwell called a "significant" knee injury during the preseason game against the Washington Redskins on Thursday. By placing Thompson on the waived/injured list, the Lions open up the possibility of Thompson being claimed by another team. However, this seems quite unlikely due to the severity of the injury and Thompson's lack of production. If he goes unclaimed in the next 24 hours, he will revert to the Lions' injured reserve list.
The roster now stands at 87 players, three short of the maximum 90 that is currently allowed. The Lions must cut their roster down to 75 players by Sept. 1st and down to 53 by Sept. 5th.
