A total of five Detroit Lions players missed the team's first practice of training camp on Monday, according to Kyle Meinke. Here's the breakdown:
PUP list (3): RB Joique Bell, OT LaAdrian Waddle, DE Jason Jones
NFI list (1): DT Haloti Ngata
Other (1): CB Alex Carter
Joique Bell and LaAdrian Waddle are both still recovering from offseason surgery, and they both worked out with trainers during practice. Jason Jones, who had a procedure on his knee in June, did not do anything, but he indicated that he won't be out for all that long.
Jason Jones said trainers are just easing him back after knee surgery and he expects to be back sometime in camp.

Jason Jones says he *no* concern about start of season. Emphasized that he doesn't expect to miss time with knee

As for Haloti Ngata and Alex Carter, they apparently both suffered recent injuries. Tim Twentyman reports that a strained hamstring landed Ngata on the non-football injury list, while Carter "rolled an ankle last week." Ngata's injury must have happened on his own time given the NFI designation, but it appears that Carter rolled his ankle at some point after reporting for training camp last week. Neither ailment is believed to be serious, so this is likely simply another case of the Lions being extra careful with injuries.
