Game day is just around the corner. We've made it through these cold eight months without football, and we finally find ourselves in sunny San Diego. We get our first look at the Detroit Lions, after the Football Gods mercilessly ripped the season from us on a terrible, terrible Sunday in Dallas. But that is the last we'll mention of that gruesome day. Soon, that game will no longer linger as the last memory of true football we have. It is time to turn that page. It is time to read a new story. We know not what the pages ahead have in store for us, but we're all eager as hell to read.
Forget all of the pessimism. Forget all the power rankings and predictions. Shortly, none of that will matter. We will no longer have to twiddle our thumbs or make mountains out of offseason molehills. We won't have to scream and yell about the ninth addition to the practice squad, or watch as coaches run the clock out in a meaningless preseason game. Because we will finally have our precious, precious football. REAL football.
