The Lions were back to practice on Monday as the rest of the nation hunkered down for cuts of meat, fun in the sun and the last gasps of Summer as September marches on and Autumn creeps closer into the consciousness. Here's what you need to know from the first regular season practice on Monday:
- Three Lions were absent from practice: DeAndre Levy, Larry Warford and Caraun Reid.
- The first injury report of the season isn't due out until Wednesday, but Levy's continued absence from the team remains a point of concern for many Lions fans. Coach Jim Caldwell addressed the concerns with the media:
- A few Lions will be sporting new numbers this year. Chief among them at practice were Jermelle Cudjo (now rocking No. 99), Zach Zenner (No. 34), Tim Wright (No. 83) and Stanley Jean-Baptiste (No. 36).
- Who is going to be the offensive MVP of the Detroit Lions this year? Golden Tate? Calvin Johnson? Someone else? While you discuss that here on Pride Of Detroit, Tate and Johnson were there getting ready.
Caldwell declines to provide an update on Lions LB DeAndre Levy. "Not certain" he'll play Sunday.
