After missing the whole week of practice due to illness, the Detroit Lions declared Riley Reiff out against the Vikings this Sunday. The right tackle only practiced once in the last two weeks—a limited session eight days ago—and was marked as questionable this Friday. Reiff did play on the majority of the snaps against the Texans, but he was pulled out on multiple occasions during the game.
The Lions and head coach Jim Caldwell do not often provide many details regarding injury, and Reiff’s illness situation is no different. While the information is limited, it is fairly likely that Reiff is struggling to recover from the same bug that hampered him a week ago.
In Reiff’s absence, Cornelius Lucas is expected to play a bigger role. Last week, Lucas was the player to slide into Reiff’s spot when he left the field. Reiff has started every game in the season up to this point. Meanwhile, Lucas started three games in both 2014 and 2015.
