Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings inactives: Darius Slay OUT, Haloti Ngata IN

New, comments

The Detroit Lions, while getting one important piece back on defense this week, are still without their top cornerback.

Minnesota Vikings v Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions defense will have one key player back this week, but another will sit in their divisional game against the Minnesota Vikings. Darius Slay (hamstring) will sit another week, while Haloti Ngata (shoulder) will return Sunday.

This will be Slay’s second game missed due to his hamstring injury. He was never a full participant in practice this week, but there was some optimism since he hadn’t sat out a practice completely, either.

Ngata, on the other hand, will be returning after missing three straight games with his shoulder injury. Ngata’s return comes at a great time, as the Vikings are really hurting along the offensive line, especially with starting guard Alex Boone out this week while he recovers from a concussion.

Additionally, Ezekiel Ansah, Taylor Decker and Theo Riddick are all active—as expected—despite being labeled as questionable on Friday. Starting right tackle Riley Reiff was declared out late Saturday evening, so it comes as no surprise to see him on the inactive list.

However, it is a bit of a surprise to see Justin Forsett as an inactive this week in a row as a healthy scratch. Dwayne Washington was a healthy scratch last week, but the Lions decided to switch things up after Forsett was active, but did not play last week.

Also, newly-acquired Johnthan Banks will not play today, as he is on the inactive list as a healthy scratch.

On the Vikings’ side, there aren’t too many surprises. Running back Jerick McKinnon, as he said earlier in the week, is good to go against the Lions. The Vikings announced on Friday three key starters were out for Week 9: linebacker Eric Kendricks, defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd and the aforementioned Boone. Floyd’s backup, Tom Johnson, is active despite dealing with a concussion of his own.
