Lions-Vikings: Who gets the game ball?

New, comments

Which Lions player deserves the game ball after their amazing win over the Vikings?

NFL: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions pulled off a huge victory on their way to the bye week. Though it was almost a huge let down against the Minnesota Vikings, they eventually made just enough plays to pull off the upset. There were several players worth of recognition, so let’s get into the Game Ball candidates.

Here are the Game Ball standings after eight weeks:

15 - Matthew Stafford
6 - Theo Riddick
5 - Sam Martin
5 - Marvin Jones
3 - Andre Roberts
3 - Darius Slay
3 - Eric Ebron
2- Golden Tate
2 - Kerry Hyder
1 - Devin Taylor
1 - Ameer Abdullah
1 - Rafael Bush
1 - Johnson Bademosi

Matt Prater

The Lions lose this game if it weren’t for Prater’s clutch 58-yard, game-tying field goal at the end of regulation. Special teams kept this Lions in this game while Blair Walsh and the Vikings special teams cost Minnesota four crucial points.

Golden Tate

It was a quiet game for all Lions receivers but Golden Tate came up with the play of the game. His toe-tapping, game-winning touchdown was really the play of the season for the Lions. Just watch:

Matthew Stafford

It wasn’t a great game overall from Stafford, but like he normally does, he made huge plays when it mattered. His 27-yard bullet to Andre Roberts put the Lions into field goal position on a drive that took just 23 seconds with no timeouts. Then he was near perfect on the Lions’ game winning drive in overtime. This guy is a comeback machine.

Kerry Hyder

Hyder picked up another two sacks on Sunday, pushing his season total to seven. One of those sacks pushed the Vikings out of field goal territory after a bad Stafford interception.

Eric Ebron

When the Lions needed a big catch, Ebron was there. Eric caught seven of the eight targets thrown his way and he turned it into a career-high 92 yards. Ebron picked up a key third down in overtime and had at least two other huge catches to extend drives.
