Sunday open thread: What percent chance do you give the Lions vs. Saints

The Lions are big underdogs against the Saints, but how do you like their chances?

NFL: Detroit Lions at New Orleans Saints Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions are in New Orleans to take on the Saints, and they are pretty heavy underdogs, despite sporting a 7-4 record. After opening as a five point favorite, the Saints are now favored by six point on most betting sites, which is the fourth or fifth biggest line of the week, depending on your bookie.

That may seem a little high, considering the Lions have won six of their past seven games while the Saints have lost two of their past three, but our own staff seems to agree. Just four of 11 picked the Lions to win on Sunday, and that seems to be the national consensus as well.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

What percent chance do you give the Detroit Lions to upset the New Orleans Saints on Sunday?

My answer: 20 percent. The Lions got some bad injury news on Sunday, with Tahir Whitehead being downgraded to out, while the promotion of TJ Jones from the practice squad suggest Marvin Jones may not be able to go either.

But beyond that, I was doubtful about the Lions’ chances this week anyways. As mentioned in my preview, I view the Lions and Saints as similar teams, but the Saints just being a better version. They’re better and more well-rounded on offense, and they aren’t quite as big of a liability on defense. I just don’t see an upset as too likely this week. Of course, I’ve been wrong more often than not this crazy season.

Your turn.
