Detroit Lions injury updates: Travis Swanson misses practice with concussion; Dwayne Washington limited

Tuesday was filled with a bunch of injury news for the Detroit Lions; three players saw their 2016 season come to an end. The Lions returned to practice on Wednesday in preparation for Sunday’s big game against the Chicago Bears and got some more concerning injury news. A few key players sat out of practice, while a few new names were added to the injury report.

Chief among the concerns was the absence of starting center Travis Swanson, who is dealing with a concussion. Swanson was able to finish the game against the Saints and is in the midst of his best season with the team. If he is unable to go this week, rookie Graham Glasgow would likely slide over to center and Laken Tomlinson would take Glasgow’s position at left guard.

Ezekiel Ansah and Theo Riddick were also absent during Wednesday’s practice. Ansah has his usual ankle injury listed, but Riddick has a new ailment listed. According to the report, Riddick is dealing with a wrist injury.

Dwayne Washington was carted off during the Saints game and appeared to be questionable at best to play this week when the Lions signed Joique Bell. However, Washington practiced with the team in a limited fashion, leaving the window open for him to play this week.

For the Bears, Eddie Royal—who tore apart the Lions secondary in the previous matchup—was held out of practice with a toe injury that held him out of Sunday’s game against the 49ers. Additionally, Pernell McPhee missed Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury.
