2016 NFL mock draft: Baltimore Ravens select Vernon Hargreaves

The Baltimore Ravens select Vernon Hargreaves with the sixth pick in the POD Community Mock Draft.

With the sixth pick in the POD Community Mock Draft, the Baltimore Ravens select cornerback Vernon Hargreaves. Kudos is the acting general manager for the Ravens. Below is the rationale for the pick:

Coming off an injury-riddled season where nothing seemed to go right, Baltimore finds itself with its highest first-round pick since 2000. As Ravens GM, I decided to use that pick on former Florida Gator cornerback Vernon Hargreaves.

The Ravens ranked 20th in Defensive DVOA last season according to Football Outsiders, which included the 25th ranked pass defense. A huge part of Baltimore's struggles on the defensive side of the ball had to do with the team's inability to start a quality cornerback opposite Jimmy Smith. Lardarius Webb and Shareece Wright saw plenty of time at cornerback for the Ravens in 2015, but tallied only one interception between them. Webb may be better suited at safety for the 2016 season, which could make the team's need at corner even more paramount.

Enter Vernon Hargreaves. Hargreaves is considered by many to be one of the top cornerbacks in this year's draft. He was very productive during his three seasons at Florida, hauling in 10 interceptions while also being credited with 38 passes defensed. Hargreaves projects to be able to play both inside and outside at the next level. His technique, explosiveness, and competitiveness should allow him to make an immediate impact this upcoming season.
