Bob Quinn's front office has weathered its first draft, but change is still coming to Allen Park. On Friday reports emerged that the Lions had finally nailed down their new Director of Pro Scouting: former Jets pro personnel director Brendan Prophett will spearhead the operations.
Per Neil Stratton of Inside The League:
#Saints area scout Brendan Prophett, who was #Jets pro personnel director prior to taking job in NO, is new #Lions Director of Pro Scouting
— Neil Stratton (@InsideTheLeague) May 13, 2016
Prophett was fired from his position with the Jets after the 2015 NFL Draft, having been with the team for 15 years. The Saints job as area scout was perhaps something of a go-between for Prophett, considering he's quickly landed a new position in a top front office capacity.
In his new position, Prophett will be in charge of scouting players already in the NFL or other professional football leagues (such as the CFL and AFL), ostensibly to help identify players on the waiver wire and during the free agent signing period.
Director of Pro Scouting was the position that Bob Quinn once held with the New England Patriots. In addition, Prophett is, like Quinn, a Massachusetts native.
The Lions are also reportedly hiring Scott Sika, again per Neil Stratton. Sika was the northeastern regional scout for the Atlanta Falcons.
