The release of the new Madden video game is scheduled for Aug 23. As part of the hype machine that is Madden, the newest trailer was released on Wednesday hyping their new commentary crew, extremely impressive graphics and, of course, Cam Newton dabbing. In other words, more of the same.
But one thing was obviously missing: the Detroit Lions. By my count, the minute-long trailer featured 26 of the 32 NFL franchises in its varied highlights, but not once did the Lions appear on screen. Detroit didn't even get the Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary treatment.
I suppose it really isn't all that surprising that the Lions aren't included in the game. They are a team with very little buzz surrounding them right now. And with Calvin Johnson now retired, the Lions don't really have a player that has that national appeal (yet). Guys like Ezekiel Ansah and Darius Slay are too young in their careers to have the reputation of a household name veteran.
Still, it's hard not to feel a little disrespected when your favorite team is one of six teams completely overlooked in a high-profile trailer like this. Also not included were the Jaguars, Texans, Eagles, Falcons and Bears. Watch the full video below:
