PODcast #45: Anquan Boldin, Detroit Lions training camp preview

The end of July means the conclusion of this offseason is finally nigh. Breathe it in and celebrate.

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

There comes a time in every offseason where the mind begins to melt and the demons of the id wonder if this wretched game will ever come back. Scarcity makes for a devil in sports and I often envy those who find their entertainment in forms that don't require waiting the majority of a year to get their next fill.

But now training camp is coming and we're finally getting to release a little of that frustration. It's not football per se but it's getting closer. Talk is heating up about certain players on your favorite team -- that is, the Detroit Lions, just so we're clear -- and now only a few weeks separate us between now and real football. We talk about all that and more on the PODcast.

This week on the PODcast

  • Anquan Boldin! He signed with the Lions and we couldn't be happier. We talk about his contract and where he will fit in with the Lions as they enter camp, and what to expect out of the soon-to-be 36-year-old wide receiver. We also speculate on which other receivers are now on the bubble to not make the roster.

  • A short discussion of PUP list names, including ruminations on Corey Fuller and Brandon Pettigrew.

  • Training camp, training camp. We give you everything you want to know about positional battles to watch, players to look out for during camp and some spicy predictions for what we expect to see out of the coming weeks as the Lions gear up for the 2016 season.

  • Mailbag this week discusses the Jason Bourne movies, college football versus NFL football and whether the Lions should pursue newly-released quarterback Nick Foles for a backup role.
