The Detroit Lions did not hold practice on Tuesday, but ended the day with a minor transaction. Detroit swapped two receivers, placing Ryan Spadola on the waived/injured list and signing Damian Copeland. This was first reported by Dave Birkett (and since confirmed by the league):
The Lions waived injured WR Ryan Spadola, signed WR Damian Copeland

Spadola has spent the past few days sidelined at training camp. The waived/injured designation typically implies a pretty significant injury. If he clears waivers in the next 24 hours, the Lions can place Spadola the injured reserve list, ending his season. This is exactly how most teams utilize the waived/injured list. The Lions have not confirmed what injury he is ailing from.
Copeland returns to the team less than a week after the Lions waived him to make room for signing Anquan Boldin. He will rejoin the crowded battle at wide receiver when Detroit returns to practice Wednesday.
