Film breakdown: Lions are still struggling to run the ball

The Lions still have a long way to go in their run game.

In this video breakdown, I looked at a specific play early in the Lions' second preseason game. Their run game wasn't very good in Week 1, and that effort, or lack thereof, carried over into Week 2 as well. The play is a small, but important look into how a few small mistakes can have a domino effect in the run game. On this play, in particular, the two main culprits are rookie offensive tackle Taylor Decker and second-year left guard Laken Tomlinson.

Obviously, Decker will experience some growing pains as he gets acclimated to the speed of the NFL game, and with this being just his second game, there's plenty of room to grow. But the slow development of Tomlinson is something Lions fans should monitor in the upcoming weeks.

The Lions are set to play their third preseason game on Aug. 27 against the Baltimore Ravens. I will be paying very close attention to the Lions' starting offensive line in that game and going forward throughout the preseason.
