Wednesday open thread: Which underdog do you want to make the team the most?

Which of the remaining “long-shot” players would you like to see on the final 53-man roster?

NFL: Preseason-Detroit Lions at Pittsburgh Steelers Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions finished their first round of cuts on Tuesday, cutting their 90-man roster down to 75 in a matter of a few days. While players may be breathing a sigh of relief for making the initial cuts, a second wave of roster trimming lays just three days away. The Lions must shed 22 more players before Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, meaning safety isn’t guaranteed for a lot of these players.

There are some Lions we’re pretty sure will make the team, and others we’re pretty sure won’t be part of the final 53. But in the middle of those two edges of the spectrum is an entire group of hard-working individuals who will continue to battle throughout the next 72 hours to justify their place on the team.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Which underdog on the roster are you hoping will make the final 53-man roster?

My answer: It’s easy. It’s Jace Billingsley. Billingsley has a unique story, coming from incredibly small beginnings and working his way up through undeniable athleticism and unrelenting hard work. On top of that, he has the rabid support of an entire town who is watching his every move. Billingsley has a tough road ahead of him — it’s hard to imagine what he brings to the roster that TJ Jones doesn’t — but he’s already defied the odds to be where he is today. He could certainly do it again.
