Lions waive Raphael Kirby, sign linebacker Chi Chi Ariguzo

His name is actually Ikechi, but the people call him Chi Chi.

Linebacker Raphael Kirby was signed by the Lions on the first of the month, and in what is known in hack sports-writing parlance as "staying in town long enough to get a cup of coffee," he's already looking for his next ride out of town. The Lions waived Kirby at the end of the same week they signed him. Instead, the Lions are going with another linebacker to fill his spot as training camp wraps up: Ikechi "Chi Chi" Ariguzo, formerly of the San Diego Chargers.

Kirby, who went undrafted out of the University of Miami in the 2016 NFL Draft, suffered a right knee injury during his college career and has struggled to get on the field since that time. It's unclear if he'll get another shot with another team, but given the speed at which the Lions waived him it looks doubtful.

Ikechi, who tends to go by Chi Chi, was an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern University who entered the league back in 2015 with the Chargers. He was waived before the 2015 season began and released in the 2016 offseason.
