Saturday open thread: Who is the worst team in the NFL?

Hint, look at the picture.

We’ve spent all week making prediction after prediction for the Detroit Lions, but now it’s time to turn our focus outwards. There are 31 other team in the league, and most of us have spent the offseason ignoring them.

But every other organization is going through the same things the Lions are: hand-wringing over the last few spots on their 53-man roster, dealing with injuries and perceived weaknesses, but also the blind optimism. So it’s time to knock one team down a peg today.

Who will be the worst team in the NFL this season?

My answer: The San Francisco 49ers. This is an organization that has been a disaster since they foolishly let Jim Harbaugh walk. Last year, I was one of the few who had the 49ers ranked in the bottom three to begin the season—don’t bother looking at the rest of those power rankings, they’re all perfect... seriously, don’t look. An upset win over the Vikings in Week 1 wasn’t enough to kickstart the rest of San Francisco’s season.

This year, the Niners are hoping Chip Kelly is the answer to all of their problems. Let’s call that strategy... interesting to spare the feelings of some. Their roster is still bare from the retirement exodus of 2015, and they the have misfortune of being in a division with two title contenders. It’s going to be a rough year in San Francisco.

Your turn.
