Matthew Stafford is Outplaying Aaron Rodgers

This isn't a joke. Matthew Stafford has been better than Aaron Rodgers in every statistical category since the start of the second half of 2015. I know. I didn't believe it either when I started researching the two quarterbacks for my Lions-Packers matchup preview. Stats from the last 10 games:

Stafford-

  • Completions-285
  • Attempts- 372
  • Completion Percentage- 69.3%
  • Yards- 2779
  • TDs- 25
  • Interceptions- 3
  • Rating- 108.7
  • Team Record- 7-3

Rodgers-

  • Completions- 224
  • Attempts- 390
  • Completion Percentage- 57.5%
  • Yards- 2296
  • TDs- 15
  • Interceptions- 6
  • Rating- 81
  • Team Record- 5-5

The most surprising statistic that I noticed was the team record. Rodgers recorded a 5-5 record with the Packers, generally considered the better team, while Stafford won seven of the last 10 games with a Lions team that was considered to be a bad team.

The other stats that are surprising is the difference in TDs, interceptions, and completion percentages. Stafford threw 10 more touchdowns, three less interceptions, completed almost 12 percent more of his passes, while throwing less than Rodgers did.

Career wise, Rodgers leads Stafford in every category. I'm not saying Stafford is better than Rodgers overall, but he is playing better lately and there is no doubting that. It will be an interesting narrative to follow this season to see if it continues.
