Thursday open thread: Who is the bigger loss for the Lions: Ameer Abdullah or Ezekiel Ansah?

Which injury is going to hurt the team more?

NFL: Tennessee Titans at Detroit Lions Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Wednesday, the Detroit Lions announced they placed Ameer Abdullah on injured reserve. Abdullah will not be able to return to practice for at least six weeks and won’t be eligible to play for an additional two. The loss was a pretty big hit to the Lions offense, who had been rolling with Abdullah in the backfield.

But Abdullah wasn’t the only significant Lions player hurt on Sunday. Ezekiel Ansah was hurt on the third defensive play against the Tennessee Titans and did not return. The Lions have not announced how significant of an injury Ansah suffered, but there’s a report from Ian Rapoport out there claiming he has a high ankle sprain, which would mean Ansah will be out for several weeks.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

What injury is more harmful to the team: Ezekiel Ansah or Ameer Abdullah?

My answer: We discussed this question on this week’s PODcast. I chose Ansah for a very simple reason: I believe pass rush is more important to this team than running the ball successfully. Kerry Hyder and Devin Taylor both played pretty well on Sunday, but Ansah is a Pro Bowl player.

Your turn.
