2016 NFL cuts: Detroit Lions establish final 53-man roster

The Detroit Lions have cut their way down to the mandated 53-man roster limit.

After a busy day full of cuts, transactions and injury designations, the Detroit Lions have established their 53-man roster, as required by NFL rules. The day has been full of some surprises, some heartbreak and some great stories.

But the process isn’t over yet. With around 700 players just recently released by teams across the league, expect a lot of tinkering with rosters across the nation. The roster that you see below will likely not be the one that Lions will be sporting Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts.

Additionally, the Lions still need to establish their practice squad. Teams can start building their practice squad starting at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 4.

But before we get to the practice squad, take a look at the roster as it stands now. What are your initial thoughts on the team?

UPDATE: The Lions placed Josh Bynes on IR and signed LB Thurston Armbrister.
